Help in Elstead was founded six years ago with the help of the Surrey Voluntary Services Council, who had identified a need for such an organisation.
We obtained three generous grants when the scheme was launched, since when we have been self-funded by the donations we receive from clients, all of which means we don't have to fund raise to keep operating. Clients pay 37p per mile for car journeys, and this is what the drivers receive to cover their costs - their time is given free. Any surplus donation goes into the funds to help offset phone charges etc.
Since the start we have completed over 2,500 jobs and each year the number of requests rises.
