BURNS & WEBBER
SponsorsA WORLD OF ROMANCE
In aid of
PROSTATE PROJECT FOUNDATION
21st JULY 2007
Burns & Webber most generously will sponsor this years' Music by the Lake at Aldro School in aid of Prostate Cancer Research.
The Prostate Project is a locally based charity aimed at improving the awareness, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Each year c30,000 men in the U.K are diagnosed with this disease, which has become the biggest cancer killer of men. The funding of research however is very little, and is less than a quarter of that given to breast cancer research.
The Foundation has established a world class research centre at Surrey University's post graduate medical school, led by the first Chair of Urological Oncology in the U.K with a special interest in prostate cancer. As a result Guildford has been declared a Centre of Excellence for this research and The Royal Surrey is the only hospital in the U.K that is able to provide all forms of treatment. It goes without saying that to maintain this level of research and expertise, and to purchase and maintain associated equipment requires many hundreds of thousands of pounds.
We are aiming to make a significant contribution through the Music by the Lake event.
The Theme for the evening will be very much Romance, and the music chosen, in many cases being specially arranged, will be well known and much loved [taking some of us back in time, perhaps]
The format for the evening will be the same as in previous years, with picnics prior to the concert start at 7.30pm. There will be soloist, band and a mixed choir of 150 voices together with the now expected professional sound and lighting effects, plus, of course, the audience sing-along, this time to the well known refrains of Lennon & McCartney. A major development this year is the design of a suite of synthesised orchestral music to accompany the choral numbers.[virtual reality has arrived!]
There will be two comperes; the T.V and radio presenter Mary Rhodes and Stanley Jackson, M.D Performing Artistes and a successful musical producer. They will present the evening with an informative, light and humorous touch.
Over the past 10 years these concerts have enjoyed increasing success as money raising functions, and at the same time have been great fun for audience, choir and band alike. The very nature of this Charity, together with a widespread marketing campaign in this area of Surrey should result in a high demand for tickets. We are preparing for a complete sell-out of c2,500.
Tickets will cost £12.50 inc. a full coloured concert programme. They will be on sale by the end of May and available from Burns&Webber and the Record Corner, Godalming as well as the village shop in Shackleford.
