ments later I heard the throaty cough of the buck, as he called for his two companions. The call is not unlike that of the dog fox but it is not so dry. The dog fox's call is very much a dry barking which one night some years ago got our dog very excited. He rushed off into the night with a look on his face suggesting that he thought his luck was in, and ignoring our calls. He came back a few minutes later very crestfallen and with a look of disgust, that he had made such a mistake.
