Hampton Lodge was built in 1766. At sale in 1799 it "included a walled garden of a modern form, planted with fruit .. trees, grapes and a pineapple house. The pleasure grounds consisted of lawn and plantations and the landscape was characterised by wood, water and distant views". Today the view has changed little.

Under the guiding hands of Cornelia Zielke the garden gives an abundance of colour and produce. Vegetables from the garden support six families throughout the year starting with asparagus and culminating with winter roots. Tomatoes, chillies, aubergines, peppers and melons will be in evidence in the greenhouse. A wide range of summer vegetables and a variety of soft and stone fruits are grown together with flowers for cutting.

You will find a new grass bed, specimen trees, lavender borders and a large herbaceous border that was redesigned and replanted in 2001-2 by Cornelia, who will be delighted to answer questions.

The garden is set in extensive parkland believed to have been designed by Humphrey Repton to surround Hampton Lodge.
