The circus came to town at the end of last term. It was a magical evening and the sounds of laughter coming from the big tent that evening was evidence of how much everyone enjoyed the event. Earlier in the day, the whole school had been to church for our end of term service. In a simple but moving service, Year 6 children, who will move on to their secondary schools in September, reflected on what they had learnt in their years at St James.
Robert Page: The things I have learnt at St James are: to make new friends; to look after old ones; never give up, try new things; be creative; stand up for what you believe in; make your voice heard; aim high; have a goal and work towards it. You only have one life so make it count; live every day as if it were your last; share everything you have and you will get a lot back; live life to the full and help others to do so. Chris Terry: How do I measure my time at St James School? Do I measure in friendships; in secrets, in trust, in caring, in lessons, fun or enjoyment? It's time to move on to be a little fish in a big pond; to start a new life and to travel to succeed in harder challenges. Jess Waters: Be fair; don't think because someone is in power, but not doing the right thing, that you have to live by it. Believe in yourself; have an open mind; don't look down on people; stay positive; have a good heart. Have a beautiful smile; live your life to the end; bring cheer to those who are sad and have fun.
It is always sad to say goodbye to Year 6 and we wish them much luck in their new schools. We hope that we have started them off with the life skills needed to be successful in what ever paths they choose to take in the future. If these children hold the ideals expressed above, they will be an asset in any community. We have again made improvements to the school throughout the summer holiday. Every class now has an interactive whiteboard and our new ICT suite is up and running. Thanks to volunteer Lois McCrum, our library has been reorganised and all new books have been entered on to the library computer system. We start the new term with several new staff. Mr Mark Smith is our new deputy headteacher and he is teaching Year 4. He was formerly assistant headteacher at a school in Haslemere and he takes over responsibility for ICT and PE throughout the school. Mrs Charlotte Chadwick and Mrs Sofia Shearring join us to teach Year R and Year 3 respectively. Miss Anna Lass is a full time teaching assistant, but also teaches French and Spanish throughout the school and Mrs Jean Bjornsgaard joins the office staff. We hope they will enjoy working at St James. Ann Tann
