GOOD COMPANIONS

The day Wednesday 17th August, when 37 Members and friends left the village for our Annual full Day outing.  We had a 'Hired In' Coach and Driver Paul, who were from the firm of Newtons in Guildford.  Paul was a very friendly and informative young man and drove us to Worthing and back safely. Travelling down, there was a slight mist over the countryside and up on the downs, which reminds us that the summer months are fast becoming history, and the early Autumn is nigh on our door-step. We arrived at the coast with the sun shining, a very slight sea haze, and everyone split up, going with their personal friends to whoever it took their fancy. It was recalled that the market 'comes to town' on a Wednesday and I think a number of folk had a peep around, maybe on their way to a favourite fish and chip restaurant, for who can argue that freshly caught fish has a lot to be said in its favour.  The day stayed fine and the sun very warm, and for those who prefer to walk or sit to take in the sea air, it could not have been nicer.  It was good during the day to meet various little groups who had stayed together, and hear what they had been doing.

At the appointed time of 4.30 p.m. (and I must say all my 'chicks' are extremely good at time keeping and are always thanked) for there can be nothing more worrying that someone not turning up at an appointed time knowing whether they are alright or not, and we had an enjoyable return journey, some a little more tanned than when they went, and may I say a little more laden with bags from various departmental stores !!

Its good to get away for a day, and we now look forward to the Autumn Session.

At the time of reading this article we shall have had our first meeting, but the meeting for this month will be taken by John Cherriman entitled 'Experiences in the Antarctic Ocean!  20-10-05

If anyone feels they would like to join our Group we meet normally on the 4th Thursday of the month at the Village Hall at 2.30 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE OCTOBER MEETING IS ON THE 20th (the third Thursday) as P.E.T.S will be performing their show on our normal date.

SHOEBOXERS' OF ELSTEAD

Yes folks, it's that time again. We will be collecting and delivering the Shoeboxes (Full of smiles for Romania) to Worthing again this year.  If you could help by filling a box of goodies, please just ring and we will deliver a leaflet to you (or collect one from St. James Church) explaining all about what can be sent and what can't.  Unfortunately the Customs do have restrictions regarding the import of certain goods.

The boxes must reach us by the 30th October in order for us to deliver them to Worthing in time to be boxed up and loaded.

Here's hoping that you can once again bring a "
Smile" to the Romanian people this Christmas.
