THOUGHTS FROM URC INTERIM MODERATOR
As I write this, the images of the devastation in Asia are very fresh in my thoughts. Although we have seen on the news, moments when it seems that a miracle has occurred, and a tiny person has been pulled alive from the rubble, the overall effect of the earthquake can only bring horror and sadness to those who have family members in the area and to those who care about what happens to their brothers and sisters around the world.
Central America too now has its share of devastation, and how could we have imagined New Orleans would become a ghost city lying under feet of water. And even now another country in Africa is in the grip of a terrible drought.
Nature, so beautiful now in this season of autumn, has enormous destructive power too and we have, since the Tsunami last December seen almost more of its mighty power than we can bear. Why this should be I do not know, global warming partly perhaps, but we live on a living planet which moves and turns as we do in our lives.
In this small village of Elstead we may feel unable to help with any great effect, but you can help even if it is only in a very small way. A prayer, a donation, a letter a small bag of clothes. If everyone does even a small thing how the mountain will grow!
Maggie Bridgett.
