NEWS FROM PETER PAN PRE-SCHOOL

Carolyn Spencer will be joining us this term to conduct music sessions with the children and staff. The music will include traditional singing games and rhymes which encourage children to develop their sense of pitch, pulse and rhythm as well as social skills such as listening and turn taking. Carolyn is a year 1 teacher and a music specialist at St. Anne's school in Chertsey. Carolyn's approach to music education is based on the principles of Hungarian composer Kodaly whose influence has created a system of music education  which develops the child's musical intelligence as a whole. Carolyn also runs Lullaby coffee mornings for babies and musicianship classes for 3 - 7 year olds at her home and can be contacted on 01252 706767 gundywindy@btinternet.com

Our Jumble Sale went well at the beginning of October, although numbers were down we managed to make £170.00. Thank you to those of you, who baked cakes, donated goods, disposed of unsold goods or helped in any way on the day.

And finally, we said goodbye to Wendy last month, who has been with our pre-school for many years. Now that her own children are older, Wendy felt it was time to find an all year round job. We wish her well in her new job and of course she will still keep in touch and keep us supplied with her colourful play dough from her own special recipe. Thanks Wendy !

ELSTEAD BROWNIES

2nd Elstead Brownies continues to thrive with a full pack of 24 brownies and a considerable waiting list. We have had a busy year; highlights included visiting Haslemere Fire Station as part of earning the Fire Safety badge, finding 26 different ways to cross the youth centre to raise money for Children with Leukaemia and pond dipping at St James' School. This term we have a varied programme including learning first aid, badminton and a trip to Legoland. The girls also enjoy taking part in District events, winning the Swimming Gala in June and recently coming third at a Handicraft Challenge where they had to create a sea life centre from a cardboard box.

TRAIDCRAFT

The Autumn catalogue has Christmas in mind.  If you have not seen a copy and wish to, copies can be found in St James' Church and at the United Reformed Church or by phone from me on 01252 702450.

At our September coffee morning at the URC, we tried the new chocolate-coated coffee beans, which were found rather moreish.  Also new and not yet tried is the box of tree-shaped shortbread biscuits, which are coated with chocolate on one side.  There are of course Christmas cards, cake, pudding, jewellery and gifts for all ages.

On Saturday November 5th, the gift and card stall will be at the Christmas card sale at the Village Hall but the tea, coffee and dried fruit will be at the normal URC coffee morning.

When you buy from Traidcraft, you know the producers will benefit by getting a fair price for their work.  From the catalogue, you can see what part of the world the products come from and the help the producers receive.

The last sale for this year will be on December 10th (this is the 2nd Saturday in December) at the coffee morning 10 am - 12 in the URC hall.
