TRAIDCRAFT

The Autumn catalogue has Christmas in mind.  If you have not seen a copy and wish to, copies can be found in St James' Church and at the United Reformed Church or by phone from me on 01252 702450.

At our September coffee morning at the URC, we tried the new chocolate-coated coffee beans, which were found rather moreish.  Also new and not yet tried is the box of tree-shaped shortbread biscuits, which are coated with chocolate on one side.  There are of course Christmas cards, cake, pudding, jewellery and gifts for all ages.

On Saturday November 5th, the gift and card stall will be at the Christmas card sale at the Village Hall but the tea, coffee and dried fruit will be at the normal URC coffee morning.

When you buy from Traidcraft, you know the producers will benefit by getting a fair price for their work.  From the catalogue, you can see what part of the world the products come from and the help the producers receive.

The last sale for this year will be on December 10th (this is the 2nd Saturday in December) at the coffee morning 10 am - 12 in the URC hall.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE FOR CHRISTMAS?  WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE?

Again this year Traidcraft has "Gifts for Life". £15 will buy storage for crops for farmers in Guyana. £40 will pay for a course in business skills for producers in Cambodia. £25 will buy organic fertilisers and seeds for cotton farmers in Western India.  There are more for you to choose from.  These are gifts for friends or relatives who would appreciate helping small-scale overseas producers who are working to build better lives through trade.  You will receive a hand-made card containing details about the gift.  This you can pass to the person on whose behalf the gift was bought.

Christian Aid has gifts that last beyond tomorrow. £7 will buy a stethoscope to help diagnose diseases such as tuberculosis in rural Cambodia. £15 will buy a gift of worms.  These will help produce nutrient-rich compost for poor farmers in Bolivia. £26 will provide vegetable seeds to improve the diet of the poor in Cambodia.  Again there are more gifts for you to choose from.  When you choose a gift you will receive a gift card for you to send to the person on whose behalf you have bought the gift.  All orders for Christmas gifts must be received by 15th December.  You can go online to www.presentaid.org.

On Saturday 10th December, at the coffee morning in the URC hall, I will have catalogues of these Traidcraft and Christian Aid gifts.

For that person who has everything, you can look at the Oxfam Charity Shop for their  "50 unusual gifts".

REMEMBER A LOVED ONE AT CHRISTMAS  LIGHT UP A LIFE 2005

On December 5th, at 6.30 pm, at the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, there will be a service of dedication with carols to the memory of someone special. The Christmas lights will be turned on during the service with prayers and dedication. The pupils of South Farnham School will be part of this beautiful service, with carols and songs. (Please remember to wrap up warm and bring a torch).
