ELSTEAD EVENING WI.

Report of Meeting held on Tuesday 6th December

Our meeting opened with the very sad news that Barbara Gill , chairman of NFWI had died .  Barbara was very passionate about the WI. And will be sadly missed.

We were very pleased to welcome new member Barbara Hardy.

Our outing to Forest Lodge was much enjoyed in November, everything looked very festive.  Some Christmas presents were purchased before a much welcomed cup of tea.

Mrs Pat Pearce gave a wonderful demonstration on Christmas Flower Arrangements - each one had a Christmas theme.  Even a Christmas pudding.  Every arrangement was perfection, and it was all made to look so easy.  Pat was thanked by Susan Holmes for a very entertaining demonstration.

We all sang happy Birthday to Anne and enjoyed a piece of cake with our cup of tea served by Mary and Jean.

Joan Wigley won the competition, and everyone managed to go home with a raffle prize.

We all enjoyed a very exceptional evening.

NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

The Thursley Rd Pavilion Trust is straining every effort to find the money to complete the new pavilion and we are advised that donations are still being made by people in the village. The Parish Council has been re-assessing our financial position and has unanimously decided to grant a further £10,000 to the project partly from the current year's budget and partly from an allocation from the 2006/7 finances. Our County Councillor David Harmer is also arranging a sum of £3000 to be granted by Surrey CC to pay for the car park. As everyone can see passing by, the pavilion is finished outside but the interior is looking good as well. If anyone wishes to have a guided tour inside you just have to ask one of the team.

People have been seen exercising dogs on the Thursley Road Recreation Ground - this is an offence against the Parish Council byelaw and action will be taken if this persists. Please let a Councillor know if such an instance occurs.

The recent heavy rains have again given flooding problems on the roads and some footways. We always report and discuss solutions with the Highway Engineers using our local knowledge but certain areas are particularly difficult ; Truxford Corner for example has continual flooding in bad weather because of  land levels and unusual water movement.

We are pressing Surrey CC Highways to introduce an interactive traffic speed device
in Milford Rd. We note that they are becoming a common feature in some villages and they seem to work very well. We would like also to see a device in Thursley Rd on the straight section towards Woolfords Lane where vehicles often travel at an unacceptably fast speed. However there may be insufficient pedestrian movement there to justify it.
