GOOD COMPANIONS

Our December meeting was as in other years, taken forward by one week, when we met together for our Christmas tea.  The Village Hall being beautifully decorated (thanks to whoever was responsible, probably Ben & Peggy !) was most welcoming for Members and guests alike, the latter being those who had spoken at our meetings, provided transport, the caretakers and helpers. Unfortunately nine folk were unable to attend, but never-the-less there were 43 of us there. A welcome was given to all by 'Chair' after which we spent time singing some of our favourite carols accompanied by John at the piano. This was followed by a short time thinking about 'the meaning of Christmas, and a poem 'No Room - Make Room' written and read by 'Yours truly'.

Gifts were handed to our guests, and before tea was served a beautiful Azalea was presented to me by Gladys, from my 'Committee Girls' which was much appreciated.

All tables were identical in decor, and we did a 'turn around' to take our positions for tea, previously prepared in the kitchen and served by the hostess for each table. There was a varied selection of savoury and sweet, not forgetting of course the traditional sausage rolls and mince puffs (not pies!)  Cards were then delivered to each Member from the Club and their friends, and the raffle table which was full to overflowing with a great assortment of things, very quickly was looking rather empty.

All too soon the afternoon had slipped by and it was time to head for home, but not before singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas" and delving deep into Father Christmas' sack for a small gift.

Those wishing, had transport home mostly by guests, and as some ladies had been busy clearing and washing up in the kitchen whilst the raffle was being drawn, and we were asked if we would leave the table dressings for another function later in the hall, a quicker getaway was possible for the two in the rearguard party!

So ends another year in the life of Good Companions. We now look forward to the year ahead with the various topics which will be awaiting us each month.  If anyone out there feels they would like to come along and. try us out, you would be very welcome.  It is
Good company, a Good tea and Good value at Subscription £4 per annum. 4th Thursday of the month, 2.30. at The Village Hall.

Next Meeting 23rd February John 'Experiences in the Ant-Arctic.

Freda Sheppard.
