ELSTEAD EVENING WI.
Report of Meeting on Tuesday 7th February 2006

May Deville our President was very pleased to welcome new member Elsie Sayer and visitor June Ryedon.

With minutes read and apologies given May said she was sorry but our speaker for the evening had cancelled, but Mr Morgan had kindly stepped in at short notice to give a talk with slides called "A few tales of Surrey"!

It is amazing just how much local history there is around us.  Peter de Biller an eccentric from Dorking was buried upside down on Boxhill because he thought he lived in a topsy turvy world.  Watts Gallery near Guildford with its beautiful church designed by Watts wife was amazing.  Also the hanging of two men on Gibbet Hill for the murder of a Sailor and much more.  May thanked Mr Morgan for a very interesting talk which was very much enjoyed by all.

The competition was a photo of a pet and won by Barbara Hardy.

March 10
th is our next walk meeting at Pepper Harrow car park at 10.45.  Walking to the Stag, having lunch and returning to the car park.  Why not join us and walk away your winter blues.

Next Meeting March 7
th Life's Little Difficulties - Ester Carpenter.

DENNIS JONES

I had no idea that my life would change so much in such a short time.  Nothing really worked out as I had planned and now I have to live my life without the two people most precious to all of us, our parents.  I have spoken about my mother before so this is about my father.

I went on parades with him when I was in my pram, he worked so hard to bring me up well and taught me  the value of the things that count, and as far as I know never had an unkind word to say about anyone and never raised his voice in anger.  A gentle man.

This is to say a very big thank you to everyone who supported me at the funeral (and before).  My Royal British Legion Friends helped out with the ceremonial, the club provided all the services free of charge.  The collection raised £263.71 for the poppy appeal.

To use a well known phrase, when you enter a tunnel the darkness seems never ending, but there is always bright light awaiting you at the end of the journey.

That I suppose is the process of death, and also the result for those left behind.

A D Jones 8/2/06

THANK YOU

I would like to  thank everyone who left messages or sent me cards while I was in hospital.
