THOUGHTS
FROM
THE
INTERIM
MODERATOR
I have to write this before I go off on my travels, printing
deadlines as you know, but on Thursday this week at 20.00
hours, I will be on a plane to South Africa.
I promise a full report on my return!
It amazes me this world we live in, how we can go half way
across the world in 12 hours, text a message back to our families
to say we have arrived, which takes seconds, and telephone
and speak to friends in America, Australia and New Zealand
say, and feel they are in the next room.
But and it is a reasonably big but, some of the wonderful
technology is taking its toll on the earth. Some say it is
too late, others that we mustn't give up, and using less fuel,
recycling waste and so on must be encouraged and hopefully
we will restore some of the natural balance which has been
upset by our continued misuse of the gifts God has given to
his creation.
The earth does seem to go in cycles and creatures have come
and gone, over vast periods of time, and in these cycles humans
have barely been on the earth at all in comparative terms,
so is this time worse because of the folly of the human race?
I wonder what you feel about it?
I will finish with an old Celtic blessing; May the road rise
to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the
sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall soft upon
your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in
the hollow of his hand. Amen.
