ELSTEAD
AFTERNOON
WI.
The February meeting of Elstead Afternoon W.I. opened with
birthday greetings to two members, Beryl Jeffery and the Secretary
Eve Hall. Elsie Sawyer and Sheila Kelly were welcomed as new
members and four visitors were also in attendance. Thanks
were extended to Adele Shoesmith for her arrangement of spring
flowers, which were a joy to behold on the President's
table.
Future events include an Activity Afternoon on 14th
March at 1.45 pm in the Village Hall, to demonstrate what
the various groups within our W.I. can offer. For a £2 entrance
fee, members and friends are promised a fun afternoon including
tea and biscuits. On 11th July, Eve Hall will be
holding a Jacket Potato lunch in aid of our chosen charities.
The summer outing will be a trip to Windsor on 3rd
August - further details to follow.
A new magazine `W.I. Life' is due to be launched in
February 2007. There will be eight publications in the year
and it is proposed to include the subscription for this with
the annual membership for 2007, amounting jointly to £26.
This will give every member an opportunity to keep abreast
of information concerning the W.I.
Dr. M Stockbridge gave a valuable and enlightening talk on
Chiropractic treatments. He moved his Practice to Elstead
Green five months ago and has added Reflexology services.
The Chiropractic Clinic provides a non-invasive method of
treatment by adjusting and mobilising misaligned joints, and
covers a whole range of musculoskeletal conditions, easing
discomfort through to complete recovery where possible. With
the aid of a skeleton and projected illustrations, Dr. Stockbridge
demonstrated how injuries can occur and explained procedures
for correction. Many seemingly non-related symptoms can be
alleviated when misaligned joints are restored to normal balance.
Members' questions were answered at the end of the talk.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Diane Tulett, followed by
a splendid tea provided by May Deaville, Val Taylor, Mary
Alderton and Margaret Carrington.
Jean Stevens won this month's competition for "an old-fashioned
health remedy" with her recipe of honey and onions to cure
a cough.
The next meeting will be on 2nd March when Mr.
A. Hazeldine will speak on "Work of a Magistrate - Talk and
Case Studies".
