ELSTEAD
EVENING
WI.
Report
of meeting on Tuesday 7th March
Our monthly meeting opened by being introduced to Mrs Carpenter,
our speaker for the evening. Speaking on "Life's Little
Difficulties" Mrs Carpenter a nurse for many years said
laughter oils the machinery of our bodies and was very good
for us, and we certainly did a lot of laughing at her little
anecdotes. She was born in Wales and was an evacuee
during the war. She trained for general nursing, midwifery
and health visiting and travelled to Canada and Singapore
where she met and married her husband a helicopter
pilot on the Ark Royal. Later they lived in Australia
where her son was born. Her husband was then offered
work in Surrey where she nursed again and lived in Guildford.
She was a remarkable woman and her talk was very interesting
and full of humour. Diana Tulett thanked her for a
very enjoyable evening.
Joan Howard won the Knitted garment completion.
Our outing to Badshot Lea Garden Centre was very much enjoyed
by members and friends. Our next outing is on 21st
March meeting at Bourne Mill at 2.30 pm.
We were all very pleased to see Jackie Williamson back and
looking so well after her illness.
Our next walk is Friday 7th April, meeting at
Ridgway Farm Thursley at 10.30 am. Walking round the
Punch Bowl and back to the U.R.C. Elstead for a Lent Lunch.
Please
come and join us.
Next
meeting 4th April - Mr Riley - "The Alexander
Technique".
Competition: "A Fancy Eggcup".

GOOD
COMPANIONS
Our February meeting was 'chaired' by Sylvia and Gladys standing
in for Freda who was unable to be with us, we all hope she
is feeling much better.
We welcomed four new ladies and hope they enjoyed their first
visit.
John Cherriman came to talk about his experiences in the Antarctic
and showed us slides all very interesting. Pauline gave
a vote of thanks.
John chose a lovely sea shell belonging to Margaret Taylor
as the item of interest.
Tea was then served and the usual draw took place .
Snow was falling steadily was we all left for home.
G. Cox.
