NEWS FROM PETER PAN PRE-SCHOOL

After a short delay, we have finally moved into our wonderful room down at the new pavilion. We are all slowly adjusting to the extra space and the children have been busy creating work for our new display boards. They have also been growing cress, seeds, beans and enjoyed a colourful week at the garden centre (alias the transformed home corner) producing some wonderful flower pictures. The Spring term was rounded off with a special visit from the Easter bunny, who delighted the children and gave them all an egg to take home. This term we will look at the theme of water, when the fire brigade visit us on the recreation ground.

A few summer events for your dairy - we have a Jumble Sale organised for Saturday, 13th May at 1.30 pm down at the Pavilion. Please do join us if you can to pick up a bargain or enjoy a coffee and cake. Our jumble sales are always well attended and we have a great selection of everything from bric-a-brac to good quality toys. Goods can be dropped off on the day from 9.30 pm. Please NO large items such as pushchairs and bikes.
Thank you.

Do you wish you could do more painting, gluing and sticking at home, but never want to clear away the mess afterwards? Then why not join us down at the Pavilion every Friday during the month of June, starting on the 9th, between 1.30 and 3 pm. There will be painting, water and sand play, craft table and plenty of messy fun for you and the children to enjoy. Open to all pre-school children and their parents. Entrance is £2.00 per family which covers refreshments and resources. Please note all children have to be supervised. We hope you can join us.

And the most important date is THAT Summer Barbeque (which everyone is already asking about) on Friday, 21st July at 6 pm on the recreation ground. Everyone welcome.

ELSTEAD AFTERNOON W.I.

Still attracting new visitors after a successful "Activities Afternoon" on 14th March, Elstead afternoon W.I. welcomed six potential new members to the Easter meeting on 13th April. The Annual Council Meeting at Dorking Halls on 20th March was attended by four members, who enjoyed a varied programme including an hilarious talk by Tricia Stewart, whose original idea sparked "The Calendar Girls" film.

A memorial service for late member Daphne Considine will be held on 28th April at 11 am at St. James's Church. Congratulations were extended to Peggy Tilly for her major role as Rosie Lake in the latest PETS production, and to Margaret Welsted for being selected as a finalist in a Bird Painting competition. A request for volunteers to assist with refreshments at the SSPG meeting in the URC Hall on 20th May was put to members with a favourable response.

Future events include the Summer Lunch on 1st June, a Jacket Potato Lunch at Eve Hall's house on 11th July and a day trip to Windsor on 3rd August including an optional visit to the Castle.

Catherine May from Seale Nurseries gave a talk and demonstration on filling hanging baskets, advising which plants to use for best results. Types of containers and methods of lining these, plus advice on compost, feeding and watering, were all explained very clearly to enable even a gardening novice to succeed. A selection of plants was on sale at the end of the talk. Venetia Pierce proposed a vote of thanks.

Tea was provided by Pam Duke, Barbara Bartlett, Diane Balchin and Doreen Watkins.

The next meeting will be on Thursday 4th May, which is the `Resolution Meeting', including a Bring and Buy stall and a quiz.
