NEWS
FROM
ELSTEAD
PARISH
COUNCIL
A number of volunteers including some children joined in our
Elstead Spring Clean on Saturday 8th April when
we really set to with our litter pickers and cleaned up the
village. It certainly makes a difference - a big thank you
to everyone who came to help.
Concerns have been raised about the junior motorcycles being
ridden around the village and the dangers to other road users
and pedestrians. The police have been informed and we have
requested the appropriate action as soon as possible. This
dangerous practice appears now to have ceased.
The Elstead Recreational Trust opened the new pavilion for
visitors on Saturday 8th April to see what a superb
building we now have in the village - many people came and
enjoyed a walk round inside. At the time of writing
the old pavilion is being demolished and then the car park
and surrounding area can be completed.
COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH
The Speed watch schemes are
run locally by volunteers supported by Surrey Police to re-educate
drivers about the dangers of speeding as well as addressing
concerns about inappropriate speeding in specific spots in
a village. At least six volunteers who contribute a minimum
of an hour a week are required to set up a Speed Watch Scheme.
All volunteers are provided with specific training on how
to use the equipment, safe working procedures for using the
speed detection equipment, how to monitor the speed of vehicles
safely and advice on dealing with enquiries from other road
users.
If you wish to volunteer or simply find out more contact Waverley
Borough Casualty Reduction Officer PC Andy Crane via e-mail
at 1966@surrey.pnn.police.uk or telephone 0845 125 2222.
