GOOD COMPANIONS

Once a year we have a 'Bring and Buy' sale to boost our funds to run our Club having to be self sufficient, and unfortunately with diminishing numbers and prices rising this is a must (although having said this we have been very pleased to welcome two or three new friends, who are contemplating joining us on a regular basis)

Business was brisk, with a selection of 'goodies' on our various stalls, including clothes, cakes and bric-a-brac. Jig saw puzzles seemed to be the 'in thing' with beautiful pictures to assemble, and 'smellies' and books were high on the list. All friends appeared to be pleased with their purchases which were at very reasonable prices.

Following this, we had a table competition (yet another concoction by Chair) this time with cryptic clues on Teatime Favourites. Twenty questions kept members very busy for 30 minutes, with much laughter rising from the tables trying to work out the answers, and on being informed the answers (the correct ones) yet more laughter when they revealed
their answers to all. So easy when you get the hang of it !!!

After all this brain searching it was a cuppa and teatime favourites, followed by the ever popular raffle, and so nice to have the late afternoon sunshine to go home in.

Next month. Chris Bruce 'Parks and Gardens and Chelsea Exhibit'.

Can we interest anyone else to come along and join us. Once a month, 4th Thursday, 2.30 pm. Village Hall is the place.

ELSTEAD VILLAGE PANCAKE RACE 2006

I am delighted to report that £600 was raised at this year's pancake race. The top sponsor was adult runner, Paul Judge, who nominated St James School Target 50K Building Fund to receive half of the money raised. The other half goes to Elstead Youth Centre.

At the risk of sounding like an Oscar speech, many thanks are due to our sponsor A. J. Tracy, Jenny Hoban who organised the raffle, Peter Waddell as MC, Mark Smith who started the races and presented the prizes, Helen Page in the kitchen and the parents of St James School who donated the 400 pancakes needed, the many people who helped on the day and, of course, the runners.
