THE TRUSTEES OF THE FRIENDS OF ST. JAMES'S INVITE YOU TO A
SILENT AUCTION

To be held in the Village Hall on Friday 19th May, beginning at 6.30 p.m.

The Trustees plan to offer some fifty items, including glassware, paintings, books and book tokens, golf clubs and accessories and much else, at a Silent Auction.  All bidding is made in writing, with an open bidding slip attached to each Lot.  Bids are recorded on the relevant slip by all those interested in a particular Lot.  The Lots will be grouped into sections and each section will have a time limit.  Once the 'Bell Rings' the highest bidder will be announced and will collect his/her Lot.

Entry Tickets will be on sale @ £2.50 per person from Mrs Ula Oakley, to include a glass of wine.  Wine will also be on sale during the evening with light snacks provided.

This will be a 'fun' evening and all are welcome.

'KIBERA KWIZ'

This is a personal appeal by me, John Preston, in order to raise funds for the Church Mission that I am going on to Nairobi, Kenya, known as 'Out of Africa'. While out there, I shall be doing Christian, humanitarian, and practical work with the parish of Kibera, with whom we have a link through the parishes of Elstead and Thursley. There is vital work to be done, but it does come at a cost: we shall require in the region of £1500 to get the project off the ground, and consequently, if you can find the time to fill out one of these quizzes, and return it with a £1 entry fee to either The Woolpack or The Rectory, then I would be much obliged.

The following questions are all about Kenya, where Out of Africa will take place:

  1. What is the capital of Kenya?
  2. What is the official language of Kenya?
  3. What is the currency of Kenya?
  4. What is Kenya's second largest city?
  5. What are the 5 countries that border Kenya?
  6. What is the tallest mountain in Kenya?
  7. What is the largest tribe in Kenya?
  8. When did Kenya gain independence?
  9. Which disease kills the most people in Kenya?
  10. What is the principal religion of Kenya?

Prize:  A bottle of Bolinger Champagne
