OUT OF AFRICA

For 6 weeks during July and August John Preston will be representing our parish of Elstead on a visit to our C.M.S. Link Collin and Anita Smith, in Nairobi. John, and Edward Jowett from Thursley, will be spending most of their time working with Colin in the shanty town of Kibera - 500,000 people living on the outskirts of ` Nairobi. John expects to form a link between St- James' Church and Colin's work, and will be telling us of his impressions and experiences on his return. The parish of St. James' has pledged to raise £1000 towards John's expenses and in support of Colin's work.

To this end I shall be showing the film "The Constant Gardener" in the Youth Centre at 7.30 p.m. on Friday 9th June; drinks and nibbles will be served in the interval when there will be an opportunity to talk with John. This film focuses on life and its contrasts in Kenya, and especially in Kibera.

ENTRY FREE.
DONATIONS WILL BE WELCOMED

WOMEN'S SECTION

The WOMEN'S SECTION meet once a month on the 2nd Thursday in each Month at 2 pm to 4 pm, not as advertised in May's Village News.

April's meeting was spent enjoying the company of Bertie and his mistress. Bertie is a PAT Dog (Pets as Therapy), Mrs Broomfield demonstrated how they help people who are in Hospital, Hospices, Residential Nursing Homes, Day Care centres, Special Needs Schools etc., by bringing their dog's care and its special life-enhancing benefits to everyone they visit. For the last 21 years PAT Dogs & Cats have been quietly making a huge impact across the community.

May's meeting was ( roll up those numbers), yes, you guessed it Prize Bingo with Pam Chandler. Always a fun afternoon, an activity to stimulate our brains.

Our meetings are always rounded of with a raffle and a cup of tea why not come along and join us.

June outing will be a coach trip details from Sandra Cheeseman on 702050
