For 6 weeks during July and August John Preston will be representing
our parish of Elstead on a visit to our C.M.S. Link Collin
and Anita Smith, in Nairobi. John, and Edward Jowett from
Thursley, will be spending most of their time working with
Colin in the shanty town of Kibera - 500,000 people living
on the outskirts of ` Nairobi. John expects to form a
link between St- James' Church and Colin's work, and
will be telling us of his impressions and experiences on his
return. The parish of St. James' has pledged to raise
£1000 towards John's expenses and in support of Colin's
work.
To this end I shall be showing the film "The Constant
Gardener" in the Youth Centre at 7.30 p.m. on Friday
9th June; drinks and nibbles will be served in
the interval when there will be an opportunity to talk with
John. This film focuses on life and its contrasts in Kenya,
and especially in Kibera.
