ELSTEAD AFTERNOON WI. REPORT MAY 2006

The May meeting of Elstead Afternoon W.I, held on the sunniest day of the year, unfolded with the welcoming of two new members, Joyce Napier and Carol McElvy. Fourteen members attended the Group Meeting in Farnham on 18th April, when the speaker Mr. Day, using vivid slides for illustration, told of the extensive damage caused by the fire at Windsor Castle and the ensuing restoration by the finest craftsmen in the land. As Elstead W.I. is visiting Windsor and the Castle on 3rd August, members were given a foretaste of a fascinating day out.

Other future events include a Computer Course on 19th May in the URC Hall, a coffee morning at the home of Jill Stewart on 23rd May, a Summer Lunch on 1st June in the Village Hall and a Jacket Potato Lunch at Eve Hall's home on 11th, July.

Traditionally, Resolutions are discussed at the May meeting. Joan Dalton presented "SPORT FOR A HEALTHY POPULATION" - a four- page dissertation which produced an animated debate from the floor and a final UNANIMOUS vote in its favour.

Betty Moxon then presented the second subject "RENEWABLE ENERGY". This was directed more towards Local Authority level within planning and new development areas and it received a UNANIMOUS vote in its favour, but with Discretionary Powers to vote for alterations at a later date. These results are passed on to a Link Representative, who takes them to National level.

Members then enjoyed answering a quiz during tea, which was provided by Mesdames J. Stewart, B. Ainsley, B. Bartlett and B. Prince.

The next meeting will be on 1st June - Summer Lunch - in the Village Hall. 12.30 for 1 pm.
