ELSTEAD EVENING W.I.

Report of meeting held on 6th June 2006

The meeting was opened by our President May Deaville who welcomed all present and gave an update of sick members conditions and advised of apologies for those absent due to holidays or other commitments.

May then introduced Mr. John Usher our speaker for the evening.  We were entertained with some anecdotes and amusing records of Artists from the 1930's to the 1950's, these included Gracie Fields, George Formby, Jack Warner, Vic Oliver, Tommy Hanley, Robb Wilson, Danny Kaye, "The Goons", and Stanley Holloway.  Mr. Usher made use of a quiz to include his audience in addition to keeping us quietly singing and laughing.  Most enjoyable was the common refrain.

Tea, Coffee and Biscuits was provided by Joan Ellis and Jean Barwick during which interlude the Raffle was drawn.

Joan Wrigley our Treasurer advised that we had made approximately £100 at our spring sale, the figure is to be finalised once various members who are currently on holiday had claimed their expenses.  We were quite pleased with this news as there had unfortunately not been a lot of visitors.

The next 'Out and About' trip is to Thursley Church on Tuesday 20th June, meeting at 2.30 pm.  This is to be followed by partaking of our usual cup of tea at a nearby facility.

May called upon Mary Parker to announce details of the next WI walk which is taken in conjunction with the Elstead Afternoon WI.  This is to take place on Friday 9th June and is to be a circular walk around Frensham.  Meet at the Holly Bush Car park at 10.45a.m. where we shall return for lunch.

Ann Chandler, Secretary, informed us of a Flower and Music Festival to be held at the URC Hall on Saturday 8th July.  The theme is "Colours of the Rainbow" and Ann requested assistance, ideas and flowers to make our contribution to the event.

The next meeting is to be on Tuesday 4th July and the speaker is to be Mr. DA Fulford on the subject "Smuggling as it was: as it is."

SPRINGFIELD SURGERY PATIENTS' GROUP

The Group would like to thank all those kind people who gave so generously to the
Equipment Fund - the total so far is £1,975. We hope that the initial purchase of a defibrillator can go ahead later this year and that, in future, we shall be able to buy other, much needed equipment for this Practice as the Equipment Fund  will remain open for any further contributions.

The Open Meeting on 20th. May, - a chance to meet the Doctors and comment on the Practice - was well attended. We hope to make this an annual event and give the opportunity to a wider, more representative age range of patients to come and have their say.
