IT'S END OF TERM DOWN AT PETER PAN PRE-SCHOOL

As usual the year as flown by and we are all looking forward to the summer break.

Looking back, our children were lucky to have a dry day in May when the Farnham Fire Brigade arrived down at the pavilion. All of the children enjoyed climbing aboard the fire engine and everyone had a go at the fire hose. They also had a chance to dress up in fireman's outfits and hats. To round our term off we are visiting Horton Park Farm this month, travelling by coach to see some of the animals there. We also have our sports day on the recreation ground, with a picnic afterwards.

Many thanks to all who helped in some way with our jumble sale in May. It was the first one we've held at the new pavilion and we had plenty of interest and support. We raised a total of  £260.00.

This Summer I will be stepping down as Chairman of our pre-school. I originally joined the committee in 2003 when my daughter started at  Peter Pan and I remained as chairman to help the pre-school in its move to the new building. However, my daughter left a year ago now and its time for me to step down. I am pleased to say that Lisa Yates will be the pre-school's new chairman from September and I wish her well. I, however, am not completely disappearing, as I am currently undertaking a pre-school practice course which means I shall remain as a helper down at the pavilion and still deal with initial enquiries.

All that remains to say is have a great summer and we'll see everyone down at the Pavilion for our BARBEQUE on Friday 21st July at 6 pm.

THE FRIENDS OF ST JAMES'S SILENT AUCTION

The Trustees would like to thank the helpers and all those who supported us at our Silent Auction held in May and we hope that you enjoyed the evening. The sum of over £1,000 was raised towards the cost of the new Oak Panelling in the Chancel.

(and continued)

One of the particularly attractive items offered for sale at the Silent Auction in May was a cut-glass decanter but unfortunately the stopper was mislaid and the item withdrawn from the auction. Happily flask and stopper have been re-united and the donor has generously offered the decanter for sale for the benefit of the Friends of St. James's.

If you would like this for yourself or for a rather special wedding or anniversary present, please contact the Treasurer - Ula Oakley 703117 - come and see, price it and "make a bid" for it. A fair starting would, I think, be c. £25, offers to close at the end of July.

DA VINCI CODE

Making your mind up: an online resource

A new section of the Church of England website, launched in the run-up to the UK release of The Da Vinci Code film, invites people to consider the facts and fiction of the book for themselves. The site pits the 'facts' of the Dan Brown novel with the story of Jesus accepted by the Church for generations, providing weblinks to organisations such as the Christian Enquiry Agency and the Church Army Sheffield Centre.
