Well,
the wheels are still on the wagon, for both teams! As I write
the 1st X1 and 2nd X1 have lost just one league game each
and sit proudly at the top of their respective divisions of
the I'Anson League.
For the Ones a fine 10 point win over Dogmersfield continued
their fine start to the season, a win marked by 8 wickets
(for 22 runs) for Mubarak Ahmad. Defeat at title rivals Grayshott
brought the guys back to reality with a bump. "We weren't
good enough on the day", said one. Grayshott went top.
Back they came, though, to take 10 points off Headley, with
Mubarak to the fore once more, this time with seven wickets.
It's just as well that Elstead's bowling attack is strong
as the batting has not really done itself justice so far in
not posting really significant scores. This ability to bowl
sides out is a massive bonus and was to the fore once more
as Thursley, fresh from a 10 wicket hammering of Cranleigh
St Andrews, were bowled out for just 121, Mubarak taking four
this time. The batting had to make sure of the victory on
this occasion and nobody rose to the cause more than 16 year
old Chris Mude whose array of off drives was a sight to behold.
The Twos have had a slightly leaner time of it in the last
month. Two games against Badshot Lea were not played as our
opponents were unable to raise a side and have subsequently
pulled out of the League. Defeat to Bramley didn't help either,
on a day when the team as a whole simply misfired. Nevertheless
a fine 10 point win over Alfold has maintained the side's
position at the top of Division 4. The main contributor here
was David Tye whose spell of 7 for 23 in 20 overs of sustained
fast bowling was as fine an example of competitive sporting
prowess as you'd wish to see.
The club has won its way through to the quarter finals of
the Stevens Cup with a win over local rivals Thursley. We're
defending this trophy so we're looking for a good run again.
More news next time!
These are good times for the club with some success on the
field and our new pavilion going from strength to strength.
There's no doubt all the clubs who visit are impressed with
the new facility and it's such a joy to operate in modern
state-of-the-art building rather than a dilapidated shack.
