We've experienced a real topsy turvy month for our two Saturday sides! The 1st X1 is still in touch at the top of I'Anson Division One handily placed second, a whisker behind Grayshott, while the Twos have slipped to mid-table in Division Four but are still well in touch with the leaders.

The Ones' problems all stemmed from a lacklustre defeat by Wood Street, that team's first win of the season. I know these things aren't supposed to happen but they do. That's the unpredictable joy of sport. Back they bounced though with an emphatic win at Cranleigh St Andrews, the start of the Mubarak Ahmad show. Not only did he score a fine century but he then took six wickets to rout a startled opposition.

He was at it again at Frensham where a second century secured another win and then he chipped in with the ball, almost inevitably, against one-time leaders, Puttenham, by taking six wickets to secure a fine win when defending a relatively low total.

The 2nd X1 has fared less well. Defeat at the Bourne saw the side slump down the table. Two points for a losing draw against Cranleigh St Andrews stopped the rot and wins over Frensham and Rowledge saw the lads climbing the table once more.

Perhaps the most excitement has been reserved for the Stevens Cup. In the second round Elstead visited Tilford and secured a fine victory thanks to an excellent opening stand by Richard Jones and Mubarak Ahmad and a short crash bang wallop knock from David Tye. So to the semi-final at Chiddingfold and a score of 140 did not look to be enough as the home side started the run chase in sprightly fashion. However a very tight spell by Fazal Syed (just 13 runs off his four eight-ball overs) ably supported by Mark Wycherley (23 runs off his spell) saw the current holders cruise through to yet another final.

There last year's opponents, Grayshott, await and by the time you read this the result will be known. Suffice to say that Grayshott are a formidable team but we are determined to retain the trophy and will not go down without a fight. I'll report on the final next month.

Oh, one other thing - we'd like to try and run a girl's team next year. If you think you could run such a team in conjunction with our club coaches we'd like to hear from you. Why not call Dave Cooper on 01428 605592.

URC FLOWER FESTIVAL

Thank you everyone who supported this event.  There were 18 arrangements of flowers, all so different and beautiful, making the church an expression of the wonders of creation that we take for granted.  From Noah's ark and the first rainbow to the children's monstrous heads with grass seed hair and furry cress caterpillars, there was so much to just sit and absorb.

The Songs of Praise service was an uplifting experience.  The wonderful variety of readings and the choice of hymns blended so well together to make it a memorable evening.

Thank you again, all our friends at St James, the Roman Catholics and all the village organisations who contributed to a very successful week end.  If our calculations are right, £328 will be given to the Milford and Villages Day Centre.
