ELSTEAD
AFTERNOON
W.I. REPORT
August
2006
This year's annual August outing took members, friends
and companions of Elstead Afternoon W.I. on a trip to Windsor.
Organised by Venetia Pierce, the highlight of the day was
a leisurely tour of Windsor Castle. A free audio guide was
available for each person, together with a plan of the castle,
giving a choice of route with brief historical explanations
at designated points along the way. The Lower Ward includes
the magnificent St. George's Chapel, leading to the
route towards the State Apartments via the North Terrace
in the Middle Ward. Continuing past the Round Tower leads
on to the Queen Mary's Dolls' House, the Drawings
Gallery and the State Apartments. The private apartments
are in the Upper Ward with a formal garden within the castle
boundary and extensive views overlooking Frogmore Garden
beyond.
After the tour there was free time to take a picnic or indulge
in a full lunch, sail away on a river trip, feed the many
swans and ducks on the river or just potter around the town.
`A great day was had by all!'
Fifty members attended a most enjoyable 'Baked Potato lunch'
at Eve Hall's home on 11th July and the proceeds
will be donated to the Elstead Pavilion Fund.
President Anne Moon invited all committee members and husbands
to a 'thank you lunch' on 1st August. Anne
is due to spend some time in hospital and everyone wishes
her a very speedy recovery. Also, Joan Dalton has broken
her arm in an unfortunate accident and everyone sends best
wishes for a speedy recovery .
The next meeting in the Village Hall is on 7th
September when Mr N. Riley speaks about `Public Speaking
- It's a Laugh!'
