LOCAL FARRIER ON SUCCESSFUL ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL TEAM

Local Farrier Adrian Devereux AWCF from Elstead Surrey was part of this years elite England horse-shoeing team who competed and were crowned winners at the International Horse-shoeing Championships held in Stoneleigh Warwickshire.

This years competition saw fifteen teams from all over the world such as USA, South Africa, Canada, France, Wales, Scotland to name but a few, representing their countries as they "sweated it out" to try and become Global horse-shoeing team champions.

Adrian took part in this years England horse-shoeing and shoe making trails which is certainly a tall order as there are only 5 top places available, but after immense preparation and practice he secured his place by right in the top five, which also comprised of 3 times World Champion Damn Bazin, 7 times National Champion Gary Darlow, Twice Reserve World Champion and fantastic young talent Stephen Beane and former National Champion Andrew Casserly. Adrian has competed now for many years and whilst achieving many successes all over the country his medal winning success at the Royal Show National Championships are well respected.

He runs a successful Farriery practice in Surrey with his loving wife Kate and two sons Tom and Jack who gave Adrian a lot of support during his dedication and commitment to a life long ambition of becoming one of the best fairriers in competition today.

So if you are horse owner who is reading this and lucky enough to have Adrian as your farrier the next time he visits to shoe your horse a pat on the back and a nice cup of tea would not go a miss.

KIBERA TRIP REPORT 2006

As I mentioned in the July edition of the Elstead Village News, I was most appreciative of all the support that the parish gave me in raising the money required to go and do my missionary work in Kenya, and, having returned, I am aware that many people are eager to hear about what was a remarkable trip, and indeed one which could not have happened without their support.

I am therefore taking this opportunity to alert all those in our parish, be it from the Church or other aspects of the village, to come to a presentation that will be given about my Kiberan adventure at 14:30 on 12th December, at the Village Hall. It will be, as has been the spirit of the trip, a joint presentation with Thursley, given by myself and Thursley's representative, Edward Jowett. I cannot stress how astonishing the trip has been; it has been no holiday, but rather an experience quite outside the realms of a normal expedition, and with video footage, souvenirs, and over 200 photos to draw from, I think it will be a presentation worth attending.

Once again, many thanks to all those who offered up their support for this trip.

John Preston.
