ELSTEAD AFTERNOON W.I.

In November Elstead Afternoon W.I. traditionally holds its Annual General Meeting. The current president Anne Moon welcomed one new member, Pam Bush. Ann then gave an interesting resume of the meeting at Dorking Halls which was attended by five members on 5th October. Subjects included a talk on Climate Change, a presentation on coping with landfill waste and May Kidd spoke for the Associated Countrywomen of the World. The main speaker was Terry Waite, explaining his dealings with hostage takers.

On the 19th October the Farnham Group meeting was attended by fifteen members, who enjoyed a talk by Mrs Horton on Making of English Cheeses.

The nine activity groups announced their meeting dates, extending a welcome to any Evening W.I. members who would be joining the Afternoon W.I. in the New Year, with the exception of the Art Group, which is full at present.

May Deaville, retiring president of the Evening W.I., and Diane Tulett acted as tellers in the election of the new committee, and Anne Moon was duly elected as President for a third year to unanimous approval.

Presentations were made to the retiring secretary Eve Hall and to Jean Cherriman, Ursula Dunlop, Audrey Barnes and Joan Matthews who are retiring from the committee, also to Christine Welland retiring press officer and to Jill Stewart, Betty Prince, Dee Beeson and Rene Clark for running the sales tables every month.

An Exhibition by the Art Group included Margaret Welsted's competition painting of The Queen, a pencil portrait of Prince Philip by Mary Sharpe, plus landscapes, animal portraits and abstract designs.

Tea was provided by Lindsay Sellers, Maureen Horsey, Beryl Hudson and P.Shawyer, assisted by Sheila Clark.

The annual Christmas Lunch will be on 15th December. 12.30 for l.00 pm in the Village Hall and the next meeting is on 7th December when Mrs A. Chance will present a `Musical Extravaganza'. The competition is a handmade Christmas cracker. Season's greetings to all members.

ANNUAL BAZUMBLE

This Annual event, held on the 14th October this year, has now become an established event in the social calendar of Elstead and gives everyone a chance to bring their unwanted items and gifts for sale in order for others to treasure. Many people in the village contribute in various ways including giving their time in providing items for sale, supporting the stalls and attending.

I would like to take this opportunity of expressing my appreciation to everyone for their valiant efforts.
