WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
Friday 2nd March 2007

LOCAL SERVICE in ST JAMES CHURCH, ELSTEAD at 10.30 a.m.
Speaker Mrs Maggie Bridgett

The first Friday of March each year is an extraordinary day worldwide. Over 3 million people take part in a Day of Prayer that circles the globe from the time the sun rises over the island of Tonga until it finally sets off the coast of the islands of Samoa.

This year the theme has been chosen by the Christian women of Paraguay and has the theme `United Under God's Tent'. Joyful Paraguayan harp music and song lead into the service during which women, men and young people will join together to pray for the World and its needs today.

We will also gain some understanding of a country which doesn't often make the news headlines. It has had a turbulent history, marked by two major wars and a military dictatorship. `What's new?' I hear you asking yourself. Well, since 1989 there has been a return to democracy though progress to social and economic rights has been slow. But the people are young and full of enthusiasm and we will pray that their energy will be used positively for the good of all the people of Paraguay.

There will be a crèche running in the Church Room which is great for you mums because it gives you an opportunity to relax and enjoy the service. More details from Joan on 702 554.

As usual, car lifts are available by ringing Agnes on 703 219.

There will be coffee after the service.

We hope that you will be able to join us and then perhaps go on to the United Reformed Church to enjoy a Lenten lunch together.

SAVE THE ROYAL SURREY

The Campaign Office to Save the Royal Surrey County Hospital has set up an electronic petition on the No. 10 Downing Street web site.   There is a need to get as many people as possible to log on to this site and vote so that the powers that be can see the amount of opposition to the possible closure of the Royal Surrey and or the accident centre at the hospital.  Over 1000 people had voted by today 19th January and the site has only just opened. The last 500 names to vote appear on the web page. If you have not already voted on this site please could you log on and cast  your vote.
