ST. JAMES' BOOK WEEK

This week has been very eventful for St. James' pupils as we were working on books for Book Week. Many different things were going on and each class had a book to work on.

Penguins were working on a book called 'A Snowy Night'.

Owls were studying the book 'The Lighthouse Keeper's' Lunch. They made papier mache lighthouses and sandwiches for the lighthouse keeper's lunch, but they ate them themselves! Robins were doing the story of Noah's Ark and made booklets about the story, as well as act the part of the animals aboard Noah's Ark and they made a colour wheel for the rainbow that appeared at the end of the story.

Key Stage One enjoyed what they were doing, and so did Key Stage Two. Kingfishers were looking at the Greek tale of the Trojan War and they acted out the story of how the wooden horse was important to the myth, as well as painting different scenes for the tale.

Woodpeckers also worked on their history topic-The Aztecs-with 'The Sad Night'. They made bookmarks patterned with potato prints, shields, fans and also wrote a newspaper report with extracts from the story. Kestrels read another Greek myth called 'Theseus and the Minotaur'. They wrote their own myths and made a 3-D maze with bits of wood with a cardboard base. Finally they put a marble in the maze to represent Theseus.

Last of all, Year 6 weren't working on a book, they were writing one! Their topic is spies, so they looked at spy stories like 'Eagle Strike' and 'The 39 Steps'. Afterwards, Eagles planned, wrote, illustrated, designed the front cover, wrote the blurb and bound their book.

On the final day of Book Week, you could come to school as a book character. In the first assembly, it was a sort of parade, with children standing up and showing their costumes to the rest of the school. Next teachers picked three of their pupils to stand up, and others had to guess who they were. During lunchtime, the adults conferred and selected three winners. One was in Key Stage 1, and the other two were in Key Stage 2. The winners dressed up as The Worst Witch, Legolas and Bagpuss. The prize was to go to the Book Fair, which had started on Tuesday afternoon, and pick a free book.

We all had a good time and hope to have as much fun during Eco-Week.
