Elstead Spring Clean Day is Saturday 31st March
- 10.00 am at the Village Green
Come along and join in the big village sweep up of all the
litter.
We are still pressing hard for a return of the interactive
traffic speed sign and it is possible that we will be allocated
a permanent sign,
Following the big fire on Thursley Common last year we have
requested the MOD to review the fire breaks on Elstead Common
as any future dry Summers might lead to similar circumstances.
We are actively engaged in choosing suitable equipment for
the children's play area in Burford Lodge Recreation Ground
but we have to try to stay within our budget. We did not succeed
in getting a grant from SITA but our County Councillor David
Harmer has promised to arrange some extra finance.
A film crew took over Thursley Rd one evening to shoot a very
short sequence for a film called INKHEART. They made every
effort to warn people with a hand letter to nearby households
and the police assisted with the temporary disruption. The
new pavilion was used as a temporary HQ with the agreement
of the Trust. In recognition for all the help from Elstead
a cheque for £200 was donated to the Parish Council.
A third application for a telecom mast has been submitted
for planning approval by 02 after the first two applications
failed. This time the proposal was much more sensible as it
will be near the existing Orange / Vodaphone mast next to
the sewage works and the Parish Council has raised no objection.
WBC cleaning contractors did not carry out the scheduled
cleaning on Elstead roads which led to a heavy build
up of silt, leaves and litter. After a barrage of phone calls
and e- mails at last the work was undertaken a month late.
The Council has raised no objection to the proposal for four
floodlights for the use of Elstead Football club for training
purposes only.
The SCC Highway Engineer has advised that advertising posters
are not allowed on SCC verges. We are still seeking through
our County Councillor more flexibility in the application
of this unnecessary rule.
