The junior tennis coaching programme is back in full swing.  Our Mini Munchkins (3 to 5 years old) are now very popular and we are running 4 groups on a Friday evening.  In fact we are now so popular we have had to employ another tennis coach to deal with the demand.

During the past month Waverley have been looking for under 12 and under 14 tennis players to represent them at the Surrey Youth Games.  Elstead has been very successful, as three of our players have won tournaments and will be representing Waverley.  They are:
Under 12 Boys - Will Burden
Under 12 Girls - Tegan Louw
Under 14 Girls - Lila Flint Roberts

We are very proud of them and all our other players who competed in the tournaments.

During the Easter holidays we ran a tennis leaders course at Elstead.  This was for 14 to 16 year olds who were interested in helping around the club with the younger children's coaching.  two of our leaders, Douglas Barker and Jessica Grammer, have been selected to work at Wimbledon alongside Tennis Coaches to supervise and lead various tennis activities at this world class event.  This has got to be a unique experience and we have no doubt they will have tremendous time.

If you are interested in any of the activities that happen at Elstead Tennis Club, including our summer courses, contact Barbara Awbery on 07989 578794.

ELSTEAD ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION

The Meeting on the 10th May, had as it's guest speakers Brienne Skewes and her friends Ann and Peter, the subject being their joint Safari holiday in Kenya, which commenced at Nairobi, after a fairly long flight.

It was an amusing and interesting summary of their holiday, covering travel, food and of course the animals, There were many interesting photographs to look at of local people, animals and objects that had been collected whilst at the Masai Mara and Samburu. The itinerary was very intensive, however, commencing at 6 am each day and continuing until nightfall, not a holiday for the fainthearted or for those who prefer to lie on a beach. I envied them the experience, however, and wished that I was younger. Sandra thanked the speakers very much for the talk and a donation was given to the Harrison Heart Foundation.

Holidays are available at two of the Hotels used by the Legion and anyone interested in going should contact Sandra for an application form.

Names are being collected for the Mystery Trip on September 13th, leaving the Legion at approximately 10.30 am. and returning around 4 pm.

The next Meeting will be on June 14th and the talk will be given by Laura Ashton the Standard Bearer.

New Members are very welcome,

Mary Moore Secretary
