GOOD
COMPANIONS
April's meeting began on a very sad note as our Chairman Freda
Sheppard passed away. I asked members to remember her during
quiet moment. David her son visited me and said his mother's
wish was for our club to continue. The committee and I will
do our best to keep up the good work. My apologies to members
who were unable to hear me, it was my first experience and
very emotional.
A card was signed by members and also a collection was taken
for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
Another disappointment, most of us look forwarded to a half-day
coach trip, only twelve members wished to go. We tried
to find outside support, but not enough were found for hiring
a coach. Sorry Ladies.
Mrs Holmes brightened the afternoon showing slides and talking
of her trip to Africa plant hunting. There are 2000 species
of Euphorbia, very prickly plants also Alovera Naccissi. In
1970 she went to an exhibition in Safari. The Scarlentino
and Gladiola were very colourful, thirty species. A visit
to Baringo Lodge to meet Somali Tribesmen in colourful costumes,
one slide showed them in pouring rain changing tyres, not
just one but four with punctures and no garage in sight.
Margaret gave a vote of thanks.
Once again a welcome cup of tea and cakes and a very good
raffle. Thanks to you all.
June Meeting - We will have the children from St James' School.
