NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

As a result of the un-contested election for the Parish Council, nine Councillors were elected : Mr D.H. Holmes, Mr R.K. Holroyd, Mr M.J. Jeffery, Mr A.D. Jones, Mr B.J. Morgan, Mr P.W. Murphy, Mrs S. Place, Mr R.C. Terry, Mrs. A.O. Thomas.

Although attendance was low we had a lively Annual Parish Meeting in April when the main topic raised was safety on the roads in view of the high level of traffic through the village. The Chairman reported that the SCC Highway Engineer had advised that some money had been allocated for minor traffic management measures in Elstead  but we have to decide on the best way of spending it. A number of suggestions were debated such as - traffic calming outside the school ; permanent interactive vehicle signs; pedestrian crossings. It does seem that the section of Thursley Rd near to the school has the most problems where traffic congestion and poor parking is a real difficulty. The Parish Council will be discussing these measures with the Highway Engineer in the near future.

The last full Parish Council Meeting of this term was held in April. It was agreed that the Elstead Marathon could take place again using the Village Green. A seat will be provided for the bus stop in Milford Rd opposite the bus shelter. The estimates for a safety survey of trees by a tree surgeon were agreed. Mr Tim Knight was appointed as the new village handyman

A request has been made to hold a fun day and cycle ride based on the London to Brighton race in aid of the British Heart Foundation - no objection was raised but there must be full liaison with the police and Waverley BC.
