GOOD COMPANIONS.

How lucky we were to have a sunny afternoon. The children from St James' School entertained us with Songs also music played on instruments. We all joined in to sing and everyone enjoyed a very happy time.

The children had their usual drink and biscuits served by Gladys.

Thanks to all our ladies in the kitchen who worked overtime to provide us with Fruit salad and Cream and extras - not forgetting a welcome cup of Tea and coffee.

Once again there was a splendid raffle.

A card was signed for Ben who retired as caretaker for the Village Hall

I was pleased to take a number of names for a 'Mystery Drive' and hope we will have a pleasant trip.

There is no meeting in August and also no 'Day Outing' as several members will be on holiday.

VILLAGE HALLS A.G.M REPORT

The  Report of the Combined A.G.M. of the Hall Trustees and Management Committee.

At this Meeting, which took place at the Youth Centre 19th June, these main points arose:

The F.& GP. Committee, which is responsible for the day-to day running of the Halls, has met 8 times since the last AGM. It has overseen the renewal of the cemetery boundary fence by Waverley B.C., the provision of new curtains in the Main Hall, decoration of the Kitchen, Bar area, Dressing Room and Rear entrance, new Gas contracts and new Licence for the use of the Main Hall for Alcohol Licensable events. The new licence required the drawing up of new Hiring Conditions for all hirers.

The Halls' finances need to build a reserve for future repairs and maintenance; there will be various Fund- Raising events over the next few years so please try to support them!

The first will be a Bridge Evening with Supper on Saturday 8th. September so get the date in your diaries - details will follow in the next issue of the 'Village News'.

The Halls now have a new caretaker/booking secretary - Mrs. Sheila Bowerman phone: 01252 703584. Ben Tilly, our retiring caretaker, was presented with a gift and thanked for all his dedication to the care of the Halls.

Hall equipment [tables, chairs, catering, staging, etc.] may also be hired independently; a list of hire charges is available from the caretaker.

The Halls' Accounts need an Independent Examiner [once a year] - if you can help, please contact 01252 702752.

The Halls now also have a new Chairman, Mr. Paul Briggs, who proposed a vote of thanks to our long-serving previous Chairman, Mr. Peter Hartley.

The next A.G.M. will be held at 8.15 pm. on Tuesday 17th June 2008 in the Youth Centre.
