So, with just two weekends of the season left, Elstead seemed to be in the driving seat as far as escaping relegation was concerned. The terrific victory over local rivals and fellow relegation candidates, Thursley, suggested that we were almost there. Defeat for Thursley in their penultimate game, as our players had a weekend off, would mean that Elstead would be safe. Not so! As it turned out Thursley secured a ten point win over Chiddingfold and it would go to the wire.

Out came the calculators!  Permutations were worked out and possible scenarios were debated. A win for Elstead against Dogmersfield in the last game would mean safety. Amazingly a win for Thursley at home to Tilford coupled with an Elstead victory would save them both, at the expense of Lindford whose season had been completed. A far-fetched scenario? Not a bit of it.

While Thursley were calmly taking ten points off Tilford, Elstead put Dogmersfield in to bat and went about their business with a view to securing a fast and complete win. None more so than skipper, Mark Wycherley, who ripped through the visiting batsmen  with a season's best 8 for 36. Dogmersfield were bowled out for just 81. Graham Gilbert and Richard Jones then went out and played in a no-nonsense fashion to maker sure of victory. Eight points and Division One cricket for 2008.

So to the annual dinner and awards evening, and what a fine occasion it was. There was a lot to celebrate and, even in a mixed season, plenty of individual performances to acknowledge. So, here's the list of trophy winners:-

Well done to all! Already we're looking forward to 2008. I'll talk to you all then.
