ELSTEAD AFTERNOON WI

A full Village Hall heard President Anne Moon report the outstanding success of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition held on 22nd and 23rd September where 120 paintings by 15 different WI artists and lovely craft work had been on display. The exhibition had a stream of visitors all weekend, with many compliments on the quality of the exhibits, and many sales. The show had raised £1226 for this year's charity, the Springfield Surgery Patient Participation Group, to add to the £824 already raised, giving a total donation of £2050. This was a terrific achievement!

The competition was for a Victorian photograph, and Christine Welland was the winner from a  number of fascinating pictures brought by members.

After hearing about the activities available to members in October, we heard from Dr R Cox, who gave an entertaining talk on Family History - how to start, where to look and pitfalls to avoid. He also warned that it was seriously addictive, could reveal unexpected aspects of the family and take over your life. After the talk we enjoyed the usual excellent tea, and the opportunity to socialise.

A special meeting for senior members was held on Wednesday 10th October. They enjoyed a report on the year from President Anne Moon and a talk from Betty Moxon on her trip to Timbuktu, followed by a scrumptious tea and chat.

The next meeting on 1st November will be the AGM with an exhibition of arts and crafts.
