FROM
ELSTEAD
PARISH
COUNCIL
Reporting on the meeting held on 15th October 2007
The floodlights at the Burford Lodge recreation ground have
been the subject of discussion amongst Parish Council members
and the various groups involved. Waverley Borough Council
(WBC) initially granted planning approval for floodlights
to be erected for two new Tennis Club courts, and four more
to allow the Football Club to practise for no more than three
hours, three nights a week. A group of residents living near
to the recreation ground felt the floodlights would be intrusive
and called on the Parish Council to take action. After taking
all points of view into consideration, Parish Council members
decided that the planning permission for the floodlights should
be implemented. The Council understands the worries of the
residents' group, but believes that as Burford Lodge is a
recreation ground, sports facilities should be available.
The Council has agreed funding for a bench beside the Milford
Road bus stop on the corner of Broomfield and Milford Road,
but is still awaiting final approval from WBC.
The Parish Council suggested that the Surrey County Council
fund for village facilities should be for additional
play equipment for the children's playground on the Thursley
Road recreation ground and a grant for the village hall. By
the next meeting, we hope to have a firm decision.
The Council received correspondence suggesting that drop down
kerbs replacing some of the high kerbs currently in situ would
make life easier for wheelchair users, particularly near the
doctor's surgery. The Council agreed to look into this excellent
suggestion.
There is funding available from the Government and SCC for
youngsters aged between 13 and 19 for facilities to benefit
themselves and their environment, but they want to know what
these youngsters would like, even if it is just a bench.
Please see the Funding Opportunities item in this issue and
go to the websites listed to make your suggestions. (page

The public is welcome to attend our meetings, the next one
on Monday 17th December. Anyone wishing to raise
a matter relating to Council business is able to do so at
8 pm.
See you there!
