NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

Reporting on the meeting held on 21st January 2008

We welcomed PC Berridge at the first meeting of 2008. He gave an informative review on policing issues relating to Elstead.  His beat covers five villages, but he is doing his best to create a "police presence" here. Issues raised during a short question time following his presentation included speeding traffic, the difficulty and frustrations of reporting minor crimes to the local police and the increase of noisy and inconsiderately driven motorbikes and cars on Hankley Common. PC Berridge said he can be contacted at the Surrey Police Incident room on  0845 1252 222. Callers asking for him will be put through to his extension, and there is a voicemail facility too.

We are still waiting for the bus stop seat on Milford Road to be installed. Similarly the new piece of playground equipment for the Burford Lodge Playground has yet to be erected. Hopefully, by the time Elstead News goes to press, bus travellers will have somewhere to sit and Elstead's children will have a brand new climbing frame.

I forgot to say in my last report that the picnic benches installed at the two village playgrounds were paid for by an anonymous donor. It was a very kind gesture and much appreciated by parents and carers.

Councillor Denis Holmes reported that the Elstead Garden Club successfully landscaped the Thursley Road Pavilion Car Park by planting over 40 shrubs and trees under the guidance of Designer Jane Henderson. The car park looks great - I am hoping they will do my garden next!

Burford Lodge Recreation Ground - Football Club floodlights

The Waverley Borough Council Environmental Health Officer has reported to the Parish Council that the floodlights are not now a statutory nuisance; advice and guidance was given for conducting a lighting survey by a qualified lighting engineer.

An initial appraisal of the floodlights has been obtained by the Council from a local engineer which criticises the degree of overspill and lamp glare and says that the scheme appears to be inappropriate for the location. The Parish Clerk has undertaken to commission a detailed report on the flood lighting method and to make recommendations for improvement.

The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on 17th March 2008 at the URC Hall, Milford Road. The public is welcome to attend our meetings. Anyone wishing to raise a matter relating to Council business is able to do so at 8 pm.

See you there!

DOG FOULING

In the February issue a parishioner wrote an article criticising the Parish Council about the absence of "poo bins" in the village.

Neither the Parish Council nor Waverley Borough Council supply special bins for this purpose. Dog owners should dispose of dog waste in the normal litter bins which are located throughout the village (eg 5 litter bins in Thursley Rd) or in their own wheelie bins in small quantities, well wrapped.

It is illegal to allow a dog to foul the carriageway of any road in Waverley where the speed limit is 30 mph or less.
