NATIONAL TRUST WITLEY CENTRE

The Witley Centre is a purpose-built Visitor and Education Centre at the heart of the commons, with its wonderful mix of woodland and heathland. In the Centre you will find an array of information including :-

A COUNTRYSIDE EXHIBITION
CAMERAS FOR BIRD, BAT AND POND LIFE
CONTINUOUS VIDEO'S ABOUT THE COMMON
TOUCH TABLE WITH SEASONAL DISPLAYS
BOOKS AND QUIZZES FOR CHILDREN
AND A SMALL SHOP WITH HOT AND COLD DRINKS

There are two Nature Walks laid out on the common. The shorter one is the YELLOW route which should only take about half an hour and takes you to the old Parade Ground From here you can see some Highland Cattle in the grazing area together with Deer at times.

The second is the RED route which is about an hours walk and takes you through an area of lowland heath covered in a carpet of heather in the late summer. The Highland cattle can also be seen on this walk together with a large variety of birds and wildlife.

Both routes are well marked so there should be no problem with getting lost. It is possible to access the walks with a wheel chair providing it is not too wet as it can be a little muddy. A map of the routes and the wildlife to look out for, is available to buy in the shop.

Picnic benches are sighted around the Centre for your enjoyment and hot and cold drinks and ice cream is available to carry out to the tables. There are also toilets available with facilities for the disabled.

The Centre is also used for education purposes for which school parties come for the day and learn about the countryside, animals, insects and pond dipping from the Wardens or National Trust Volunteers. We have schools from a large surrounding area and even some London area schools.

Why not spend a very interesting time out at Witley less than I5 mins drive from Elstead. There is adequate parking facilities off Webb Road. Entrance to the Centre is free but a small charge is sometimes made for special organised events, usually during school holidays

Dog walkers are welcome but are requested to clear up after them in the bins provided . We have lots of children carrying out nature studies over the area and so would appreciate your cooperation.

The Centre is open Monday to Friday 11.00 am to 4.00 pm but access to walks etc are available all week and is located on the Milford to Haslemere A286 road and is signposted at certain junctions

For further details you can ring the Centre on 01428 683 207 and ask for Charonne Cameron or ring me on 702 158.
