NATIONAL TRUST WITLEY CENTRE

Do you have a love of the countryside and enjoy being outdoors ?

Would you like to share this with school children aged 4 - 12  and have some spare time during term time. If  'Yes' then the Witley Centre would be very pleased to hear from you.

The Centre runs a very popular education programme and are always on the lookout for people who would like to assist with the school visits.  Pond dipping and minibeast hunting are just two of the activities you can be involved in.

No previous experience is needed as full training is given on site.

For further details please contact Charonne at the centre on 01428 683207

ELSTEAD ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION

The Meeting held on April 10th was not so well attended as usual, due to ill health and holidays, it was also a little different in that the Speaker, Sandra Morgan JP, was unable to attend, so we all had a chat on various subjects, had tea and cake provided by Eileen Mitchell, drew the Raffle which raised £17 and the Meeting closed at approximately 3.45 pm.

We meet next month on Thursday, May 8th when Eric Morgan will be giving a talk on Guildford and it's history.

New Members are always welcome , if you are interested please contact Sandra on 702050.

TRAIDCRAFT

One of the principles of fair trade is a commitment to develop and maintain long-term relationships.

Dezign inc., based in Zimbabwe's capital Harare, used to supply T-shirts and sweatshirts with various designs on them for Traidcraft.  The runners with the Traidcraft logo that are on my stalls also came from this company.  When most of the workers lost their homes to the Government 'clean-up', Traidcraft helped them obtain money to buy land for their workers to build new homes.  The hyper-inflation has led to a continuous erosion of disposable income and current power shortages have not made the situation any better. On a positive note, their full-time staff complement has reported for work.  They have continued to run nutrition lessons to ensure that they eat healthy food for a healthy mind.  They also have an AIDS Awareness programme to be run on the last Friday of each month and code-named it 'Waza-Friday', meaning 'Welcome Friday'.

When their export manager wrote recently, she quoted from a book she was reading: 'The happiest of all people do not necessarily have the best of everything but they make the best of what they have.'

Let us hope that they will soon be able to supply Traidcraft with their products again.
