Guided Walk (April)
'Wilderness Wander at Hankley Common' Saturday
26th April, 10 am - 12.30 pm
Explore the extensive open heath of this MoD training area. Find out how people have used the
heaths over the years, and look and listen out for the wildlife that make them their home. Binoculars
recommended. Some steep slopes. 2½ miles.

Heath Week (24th
May - 1st June)
'A week of fun activities for all the family on a heath
near you. Go on a bog safari or bug hunt, stay up late for a moth night, or meet the cows doing
conservation work.'
'Day's End at Thursley Common' Monday
26th May, 7 - 10 pm
Spend an evening exploring this National Nature Reserve looking at wildlife on the heath and
in the bogs, and with luck hear the eerie call of nightjars at dusk. Warm clothing, a torch
and binoculars are recommended. 3 miles.

'Bug Hunts at Frensham Common' Tuesday
27th May, 10.30 am - 12, or 1.30 - 3 pm
Hunt for bugs and discover the fascinating world of heathland insects and spiders with experts
Mike Edwards and Peter Hodge, and the Surrey Heathland Project. Bring the family for a morning
or afternoon at Frensham Common, or bring a packed lunch and stay the whole day. Butterfly nets
and bug pots provided. Booking is recommended:

'An Evening on the Heath, walk at Farnham Heath'
Saturday 31st May, 8.30 - 10.30 pm
Take an evening walk around Farnham Heath with the RSPB Reserve Manager Mike Coates, looking
out for bats, moths, woodcock and nightjars. Warm clothing and a torch are advisable.

'Bog Safari at Thursley Common National Nature Reserve'
Sun 1st June, 10.30 am - 12.30
Join James Giles, Natural England's Reserve Manager for Thursley on a walk looking at the fascinating
plants and animals flourishing in the bog areas. Easy going terrain (sand tracks and board walks)
but please wear sensible footwear and bring sunhat / cream if necessary. Binoculars recommended,
dogs on leads please, no booking necessary.
