NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL: ANNUAL PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

Denis Holmes gave his report on what he acknowledged was one of his busiest years as Chairman. The main topics were the Foot and Mouth outbreak, the Football Club's floodlights at Burford Lodge recreation ground, new playground equipment on order, the village hall, the traffic management scheme, which has yet to be implemented despite EPC meetings and discussions with the Surrey County Council Highways Engineer, and the successful landscaping of the new Pavilion car park.

The main topic of concern voiced by parishioners attending the meeting was traffic management in the village. Speeding was seen as the main problem, and some of you may have seen the report in the Surrey Advertiser.  One parishioner enquired about the status of a piece of rough ground owned by Waverley Borough Council at the back of Broomfield.

NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL: PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

Burford Lodge Recreation Ground - Football Club floodlights

Once again, the Football Club floodlights were discussed following a Council-commissioned report by a specialist lighting consultant. It went into great detail, and concluded that the lighting scheme was not satisfactory. Three Councillors volunteered to meet with the Football Club members to decide on the best way forward, and to talk to local parish councils, such as Milford, where they have a successful floodlighting scheme in place. The Council has also asked the Football Club for a safety inspection certificate to ensure the floodlights are safe.

The Council is very keen to support sporting activities on both recreation grounds, but has to do so with regard to public safety as well as the sensibilities of local residents.

Councillor Bryn Morgan reported on his meeting with WBC with regard to the rough ground owned by WBC at the back of Broomfield. The land is under investigation by WBC and it is keen to see the land fairly used with regard to all affected local residents. He made the observation that if Elstead parishioners want allotment facilities, the Parish Council will consider the matter if six or more parishioners voice their interest.

The Council was delighted to give its permission for this year's Elstead Marathon on 4th July to go ahead once again. It is a fun, sporting occasion, which brings villagers of all ages together.

We have been asked to publicise affordable housing in Elstead:

Cheaper homes available to local people

Did you know that your Parish Council worked with the Rural Housing Trust to build two shared ownership homes in Elstead intended for those with links to the parish. If you are local to Elstead and would like details of any future shared ownership sales, contact Karen Wheeler on 01371 874738 to be included on the Elstead Register of Interest.

The Council congratulated Ruth Jansen, Leslie Wood, Karen Terry and Sarah Anderson Edwards on their successful completion of the London Marathon.

Finally, the bench beside the bus stop on Milford Road is finally up and has been well used.

The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on 16th June 2008 at the URC Hall, Milford Road. The public is welcome to attend our meetings. Anyone wishing to raise a matter relating to Council business is able to do so at 8 pm.

See you there!

Sally Place, Parish Councillor
