Reporting on the Council meeting
on 27 May
It was a busy Parish Council meeting, with many issues to discuss and decide upon. We are all
delighted the new bus stop bench on Milford Road is such a hit. By the time you read this, the
new playground equipment will be up and running at the Burford Lodge Recreation Ground. The
multi-purpose climbing frame and spinner will be a great addition to the playground. Many thanks
to Councillor Anne Thomas and Clerk Chris Newman for working hard to get these installed.
Following my report in the last issue of Elstead News, a few Councillors had been contacted
by parishioners expressing their interest in allotments. Because we received feedback from at
least six people, the matter will be discussed at the next meeting. There is a lot to consider
when setting up allotments, not least the administration and management involved to ensure their
smooth operation.
We discussed whether to take up a collective membership of the newly formed Surrey Hills Society,
of which Councillor Bryn Morgan was a founder member, but decided that although we believe protecting
and managing the Surrey Hills area to be a worthwhile cause, it was outside the remit of Elstead
Parish Council. However, there was nothing to stop Councillors taking out individual membership.
Councillor Andrew Jones, who many villagers will know for his work with the British Legion,
asked the Council for financial support for additional inscriptions on the Thursley Road War
Memorial. We agreed to make a donation.
Facilities for Teenagers
Discussions to provide recreational facilities for teenagers in Elstead are now underway. We
need feedback from members of this age group, so that we can be confident we are providing the
right facilities.
The following website and email address make it easy for teenagers to respond.
Email: teens@elstead.org.uk
Website: www.elstead.org.uk/teens
We invite teenagers (and their parents/carers) to email us with suggestions on the kind of sporting
and recreational facilities you would like to see in the village. There is a real chance we
can obtain funding, so we want to get this right.
Please tell anyone who fits into this age category to contact us so we get as many responses
as possible. We look forward to receiving your suggestions.
The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on 21st July 2008 at the URC Hall, Milford Road. The
public is welcome to attend our meetings. Anyone wishing to raise a matter relating to Council
business is able to do so at 8 pm. See you there!
