Volunteers for St James' School

To help with

Cooking Lessons and Vegetables Growing

We are making cookery lessons a regular part of our school curriculum and are on the look out for willing adults from the local community to help staff with small groups of children.

We also have opportunities for people who might like to help run an after school cookery club (starting 3.15 pm)

We are extending our fruit and vegetable growing programme across the school and are on the look out for willing adults from the local community to help staff with small groups of children.

We also have opportunities for people who would like to help maintain our veggie patch when there are no children around !

ELSTEAD PAPERBOAT RACE 2008

2nd Elstead Brownies and the newly formed Guide Pack invite you to join them for some messing about on the water at the Elstead Moat on Sunday 6th July at 3 pm (the same weekend as the Elstead Marathon).

Have you had some new garden furniture or kitchen equipment delivered and are wondering when to get to the dump to dispose of the cardboard? Consider recycling it into a boat and sailing it around  The Moat during the Elstead Paperboat Race! Sounds crazy but that is what 17 teams did last year! If you don't fancy getting wet, come and watch everybody else getting wet! Free to spectators just some bucket rattling going on!  There will be a small entrance fee per boat.

The boat race has gone from strength to strength in the last few years.  This year we are hoping for a record number of entrants prepared to have a lot of fun. So get creating and plotting as there are prizes for design as well as sogginess!

The boat must be large enough to contain a crew of one or more, and must be made entirely from paper and or cardboard. Each race lasts 15 minutes and the winner will be the boat that has managed the most laps of the course. Children and adults races will be separate.  Rules and more details are available from Helen Page 01252 702 899.

PS you can find some pictures of last years contenders at http://www.elstead.org.uk

Happy Sailing!
