POLYCLINICS
THE
NEXT
GOVERNMENT
ATTACK
ON THE
RURAL
COMMUNITY
?
First we have the news that post offices will no longer pay our pensions, then we hear that
Post Offices are being closed if they are not profitable - Now we hear that the GP Surgeries
are also to be moved from small villages. Yet further attacks on the elderly, infirm
and disadvantaged who live outside large towns.
Polyclinics could lead to the closure of more
than 1000 surgeries in London, more than three quarters of the total in the capital,
and a further 600 in the rest of England, says the opposition leader David
Cameron.
Visits to the doctor for minor ailments will then require much longer journeys. As the most
frequent visitors to doctors surgeries are mothers with young children and older people they
will find it increasingly difficult to access health care.
This will be especially true in a time where transport availability and costs are set to make
travel outside the local village more difficult.
IF you agree with the above do not hesitate to write to your MP Jeremy Hunt and why not a
copy to the wonderful Mr Brown the Prime Minister.
The following are points for possible inclusion in your letter.
- Less continuity of care, patients won't see own/same
doctor on each visit.
- Transport: will be required, - no or poor public transport
expense - taxi very dear : single journey to eg RSCH. £20.
- Elderly, young, non-drivers, non -car-owners ,especially
in rural areas, will have real problems.
- Destabilisation of G.P. service: Once a patient is registered
at Polyclinic, the grant per patient is lost to the G.P. practice resulting in serious risk
of closure. Once a GP practice is closed, it will never re-open.
Actions: You can join the internet petition found at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/
write to either of the addresses below.
