Elstead Village Tennis Club is supporting the local community by running free courses of tennis lessons at 6 local schools - St. James Elstead, Waverley Abbey, Puttenham, Busbridge Juniors and Infants and Chiddingfold. Coaches from the Orbit Tennis Academy who work at Elstead go into the schools during the day and support the schools in their PE lessons, working on movement and co-ordination skills as well as tennis skills.

The excellent reputation held by the Orbit Tennis coaches has meant that Surrey LTA are willing to support the programme, and provide the funding. In addition the LTA has helped to fund the two new courts at Elstead.

Elstead Tennis Club is known as having one of the best mini tennis programmes in Surrey. This reputation has been built by ensuring that experienced, qualified coaches run the programme and that new coaches are trained and mentored to our very high standards before coaching on their own.

This summer Orbit Tennis is again running a comprehensive holiday programme at Elstead Tennis Club and Priorsfield school. This year the tennis camps are being enhanced by the presence of visiting coach Jose Latorre from the Juan Carlos Ferrero Academy in Spain. Juan Carlos Ferrero is a former world number one tennis player and recently beat the formidable Rafael Nadal at Rome on a clay court. Jose's visit follows a highly successful trip at Easter to the Academy by local children and adults from Elstead  tennis club.

Barbara Awbery of Orbit Tennis said: We are delighted that Jose has agreed to come to England and his experience at the Academy will be extremely beneficial. You only need to look at the success of Spanish tennis players to see that their coaching standard is extremely high."

Orbit Tennis has been successfully running holiday courses for 12 years. Kids from all over Surrey and Hampshire attend the courses, many coming back year after year. The reputation of our courses is widening and this year three children will be attending from the USA.

All the children have a great time, as well as benefiting from the best coaching. Orbit has always invested in top qualified coaches, and this year's coaching team will once again include LTA coach of the year Jon Bozas. Jon, a first class technical coach, not only coaches key Hampshire performance juniors, but also took Peter Norfolk to his first ever Paralympic gold medal.

Our courses are filling quickly but there are still places available for the tennis courses in July and August. The courses are exciting team based and fun, with the focus on skills, fitness, speed and movement, and player development. Children aged 4-16 of all abilities and standards are very welcome. Forms for the courses can be downloaded from the web on www.orbittennis.co.uk or for further information on either holiday or term time courses contact Betty on 07979 656542 or Barbara on 07989 578794

THANK YOU

Diane and Geoff Balchin would like to express their sincere appreciation for the many "Get Well" cards and the kind verbal comments and good wishes received during the numerous days Geoff spent as an inpatient at St Georges Hospital in Tooting. We are pleased to say that his operation appears to have been successful and he is making a satisfactory recovery.

Our daughter Christine's brain tumour treatment in April seems to have been successful and we are grateful for the interest shown and support given particularly by the congregation of St James'
Church.
