NEWS FROM ELSTEAD PARISH COUNCIL

Reporting on the Council meeting on 16th  June

Next Meeting
This is at 7.30 pm on 18th  August 2008 at the URC Hall, Milford Road. The public is very welcome to attend our meetings. Anyone wishing to raise a matter relating to Council business is able to do so at 8 pm. See you there!

It was a busy Parish Council meeting, but we were delighted to welcome Sergeant Simon Berger. We discussed motorcyclists driving in a thoughtless, frightening and dangerous fashion on Hankley Common. Councillors reported that many Elstead residents had expressed concern about this antisocial behaviour. Sgt Berger said he was in discussion with MOD police to try and resolve the issue. Chairman Denis Holmes asked if he would report back with progress made at a future meeting.

We should soon see further litterbins installed around the Thursley Road Recreation Ground as these have been ordered. There is a new litter bin at the end of Red House Lane.

The Council agreed to finance the cleaning of the stone bench on the church green. Its historic nature means that it requires special cleaning, but we all agreed that it was well used and would benefit from being spruced up.

Facilities for Teenagers
The Council discussed the possible introduction of recreational facilities for teenagers in the village. We need feedback, so we can be confident we are providing the right facilities. We invite teenagers and parents/carers to email us with suggestions on the sporting and recreational facilities they would like to see in the village. Funding is likely to depend on the amount of response we receive. We look forward to receiving suggestions.

Allotments
There has been some interest expressed on having allotments in Elstead. Councillor Bryn Morgan has kindly agreed to co-ordinate this initiative and we ask residents interested in having an allotment to email him on brynmorgan@hotmail.co.uk

Floodlights
A sub committee has been set up to see if a satisfactory solution can be made with regard to the Football Club's floodlights at Burford Lodge Recreation Ground. A letter giving the up to date position  will  be sent to nearby residents asking if they would like to send two volunteers to join this committee. We are still waiting for an electrical  safety certificate to ensure the lights are safe to use.

The new playground equipment has been a great hit with local youngsters, particularly the spinner.  Our Chairman has even admitted to having a quick spin - just to check it was working properly!
