RECYCLING REPORT

I have been doing some checking recently to see if certain aspects of what I have been telling you are correct.  I hope what I found out will be useful.

Plastic Bottle Caps:  It is correct that Waverley's processor prefers the caps to be removed but it won't matter if a few caps get in your kerbside box and the bin men won't reject your box if there are some in with your plastic bottles and cans.

Plastic Bags:  Unfortunately we all end up with a few plastic bags from shopping and I recycle mine at Sainsbury's. They have confirmed that it is fine to put other plastic bags such as those containing fruit or sliced bread in with the shopping bags.  I even add the bags from frozen vegetables and the plastic covering on many magazines, etc.

Yellow Pages and Window Envelopes:  I was pleased to see in the Surrey Advertiser that we can now recycle our Yellow Pages directory in with our paper and magazines in the lidded kerbside box. Aylesford Paper Mills recycles 7,000 tons of newspaper and magazines annually from Waverley households. The Borough Council's Environmental Services Team (01483 523 524) has also told me that it is fine to put white 'window' envelopes in with your paper.  So there is no need to separate these envelopes or cut off the cellophane window - apparently it is floated off at the paper mills.
