ELSTEAD VILLAGE HALL Report
BRIDGE EVENING ON SEPTEMBER 13TH

Elstead Village Hall held its second annual Bridge Evening on Saturday 13th September.  Once again this was very well attended, with 16 tables of bridge players who seemed to thoroughly  enjoy the evening.

The evening was being held to raise further funds towards the decorating of the Village Hall, which is already well under way and is now expected to be finished within the next couple of months.  It is mainly only outside work now waiting to be done, so that it was nice to be able to welcome everybody to the newly decorated Main Hall.

The format was the same as last year, starting with a 2-course salmon dinner for the 64 players, provided by Joanna Manches with Anne Moon and Pam Duke giving the same staunch and invaluable help as before (and with thanks, as ever, to Patti Pearce for making the salad).  Peter Moon and Mick Duke ran the bar, while Keith and Venetia Pierce did noble service with the raffle which raised £202 towards the evening, and for which thanks go to the many traders in Elstead Village who gave much appreciated support to the evening by donating raffle prizes.    A brilliant team, who worked superbly together.

John Manches (Treasurer of the Village Hall) was front of house, welcoming everybody and getting the evening under way.  Play started at 8.00 pm, with three sessions of rubber bridge in which everyone partnered in turn one of the people at their table.  Scoring was generally very low, with nobody able to claim the slam prize at the end of the evening

Overall the evening was a great success, provisionally raising just over £800 towards the Village Hall's funds.  "Never again", said Joanna when it was all over - and whilst this time I have a feeling she means it, you never know ...

Best wishes from Linda Gibbs

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for all their good wishes and presents on the occasion of my retirement from St James C of E Primary School. I was completely overwhelmed by all the good wishes and messages and by the generosity shown by you all.

Leaving St James was a wrench, after all I had taught there for 17 years, but now it is time to start a new chapter of my life. I am assured that I will soon wonder how I had time to work and I must admit that already I am beginning to feel a little like that!

Many, many thanks to everyone. Best wishes - Linda Gibbs.

AN INDIAN PROVERB

Everyone is a house with four rooms,

A physical, a mental, an emotional and a spiritual.

Most of us tend to live in one room

Most of the time but, unless we go into every room

Every day, even if only to keep it aired,

We are not a complete person.
